The Ladies

So what does a painter like David Uhl and photographer Michael Lichter have in common?

Harley Davidson Art at the 2010 Motorcycle Cannonball of course!

The Motorcycle Cannonball is a cross country endurance ride from Kitty Hawk, NC which left on September 10th and is to end in Santa Monica, CA on the 26th….doesn`t sound like to big a deal…until you realize that these will all be done by riders on pre-1916 motorcycles!  

So as a way to document this event, Michael Lichter will be tagging along for the ride on the back of a 1953 HD panhead…facing backwards…so he can get the best shots.  Meanwhile, David Uhl who attended the pre-race events has been picking up a few ideas of his own to paint back in his Golden, CO studio in time for presenting to the winners at the end of the endurance race.

David Uhl who comes as one highly respected in painting vintage motorcycles and capturing the moment of a ride.  Uhl as been called “The Norman Rockwell of Harley Davidson Artists”.  Celebrities such as Jay Leno, U2 and Steven Tyler have also added to their Harley Davidson Art collections from Uhl`s paintings.

Michael Lichter photos are a means of capturing the essence of the biker lifestyle over his 30 years of photography.  His works are captured “in the moment” as he typically travels along with his subjects on a shoot.  His work has appeared in thousands of articles, coffee table books and advertising.

Now, this is not going to be as kinky as it started out sounding…Harley Davidson Collectibles are made for the bedroom as well…believe it or not…and after this article…and when you see some pics…you will believe! 

What can be collectible in the bedroom you ask?  

How about a blanket and pillow set, how about a lamp, bed skirt, mat, rug, shower curtain…and how are these collectible?

I guess, I’m personally going back to my childhood days when I had a set of hotwheels sheet and pillow covers…I totally loved them!  I was four or five at the time…but as a boy…cars were the scene…now…it’s motorcycles!  When I look back on those days I slept using that sleep set, I think how cool it really was!  I mean, I felt like one of the luckiest boys in the world being able to sleep with cars on my covers!  

Actually, when I was in college…I had my mom pull them out again!  They were the rage!  Other students remembered having a similar set!  I mean…my sheets became a conversation starter with other students…in college!  Now at the age of almost 40…I think how cool it would be to have kids and be able to pass along a passion of mine to them.

The question is, what is Harley Davidson Art?  

What some might say would be Harley Davidson Art, is everything that carries the HD logo…including the motorcycle…however that is a bit too loose a definition of art for this article.  Let’s refine that answer a bit and be more specific….Harley Davidson Art are paintings, photographs, vintage signs, posters and prints. 

Two of the more well known artists preparing HD art is Scott Jacobs and David Uhl.  These artists photographs or paintings have also been turned into prints and post cards.  David Uhl is one artist that is directly commissioned by Harley Davidson for creating works of art during the Daytona and Sturgis annual bike rally’s.  He will work on various pieces throughout the week and then sell them off after the rally is finished.  So each year he is producing several works of authentic HD art.

During their 100th anniversary celebration, Harley Davidson gave out hundreds of posters.  Each poster was a different motorcycle they had ever made during their 100 years in the business.  Those posters are now considered works of art and are highly sought after collectibles.  

Vintage signs are another form of art to decorate your office or garage.  

Whatever form of Harley Davidson art you are interested in, be sure to look for the HD shield and bar symbols that indicates your piece is a genuine HD work of art.
